Geostatistics is part of the suite of geological consulting services that we at SmartMin offer.
Our team comprises highly skilled and qualified professionals with extensive experience and expertise in a diverse array commodities.
We offer comprehensive services in Geostatistics encompassing:
- Mineral Resources and Reserves Estimation
- Data QA/QC
- Estimation for Exploration, Feasibility and Grade Control
- Geostatistics training for geologist and mining professionals
Why you need Geostatistics
Geostatistics is a key component of Mineral Resources Estimation and reporting. It is a statutory requirement to do resource estimation and guidelines are in the SAMREC code and all other major codes. All mining companies need Geostatistics for:
- Quantification of in-situ mineral resources for mine planning and reserves definition
- Assurance for investors
- Declaration and reconciliation of mined material
- Stock exchange registration
- Mining Right License
What is Geostatistics?
Geostatistics is a branch of statistics focusing on spatial or spatiotemporal datasets. Developed originally to predict probability distributions of ore grades for mining operations and is applied in the geosciences.
The discipline was initiated by Danie Krige in the 1950s and saw increased popularity in the 1970s and 1980s because of the French mining engineer, Georges Matheron.
Geostatistics is a discipline that is seeing renewed interest in the mining industry, thanks to the global interest the 4IR, smart mining and related technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning.
The integration of Geostatistics with AI/machine learning has helped to overcome the limitations of kriging, which often left gaps in the discipline and limited full adoption of Geosatistics on its own.
Integrated Geostatistics and Machine Learning
At Smartmin we have managed to bridge this gap by incorporating descriptive geological data with numeric chemical assays for more accurate resource estimation and defining confidence intervals on mineral reserves calculation and automated facies classification.
Since the advent of machine learning and improvements in computational power in the last 10 years, the value derived from data is increasingly valuable and at reduced costs which makes it a must to invest in the leveraging of data.
World Leading Geostatistics Expertise
In the world, few prominent people are regarded as authority to the discipline and that is Michael Pyrcz (USA and Canada) Clayton Deutsch (Canada), Isobel Clarke (UK and South Africa), Christina Dohm (South Africa), Willim Abessey (Ghana and Australia) and Leon Tolmay (South Africa).
Our team at SmartMin is led by Leon Tolmay, who boasts more than 40 years of experience in the industry, reassuring you enjoy the services of one of the global leaders in this field.
We offer high quality Geostatistical services that cover the wide spectrum of the project lifecycle.
